Prom Hairstyles 2012 Trend - Half Up, Half Down Hairstyle
The half up, half down hairstyle is suddenly skyrocketing in popularity and by “half up, half down” we don’t mean top up and bottom down but rather one side up and one side down. Katy Perry was seen sporting this look years ago but like most trends it didn’t circulate until quite some time later. Erika Christensen was recently photographed at the 14th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards with this popular style and Christina Aguilera has repeatedly worn this look on the second season of The Voice.
There are a couple of ways you can wear this style. You can either simply comb one side behind you and pull it to the front of your shoulders on the other side or you can pin it into place in the back. Start by curling your hair with a large barrel curling iron or straightening iron. Spray each section and roll them to the base of your head, pinning them into place. Curl each section in different directions to break up curls and curl the front of your hair away from your face on the side you intend to leave loose and unpinned.
After your curls have set let them loose and use a comb to pull back the side you intend to pin back. Use a pomade on that section to help secure it into place and tame fly aways. If you have any difficulty getting your hair to stay in place pin the hair in the back to the side to get it to stay over your shoulder.
Updo Hairstyles for Prom 2012
Updo Hairstyles are essential for completing a formal look for any special event. Whether you are going to prom, a wedding, or any formal occasion your hair will need to be styled in an extra special style. Updos can be anything from a French Twist to a fully curled and half pinned up style.
Longer hair can give you a lot more style options but if you have shorter hair you may want to enhance your style with a decorative hair pin or broach. Simple styles are sometimes the most memorable!
When choosing the perfect prom hairstyles updo for your special day there are many factors that you will want to consider. Keep in mind the length of your hair as well as the texture so that you are reasonable with what your stylist can create for you. You should also consider the neckline of your dress/outfit, your jewelry, and your facial features, so that you can choose a style that will enhance your best attributes rather than hide them. For instance if your eyes are your best feature, sweeping your bangs over them would not be a good choice. However if you have a large forehead and would like to camouflage that, sweeping bangs over your forehead would be a good idea. If your hair doesn’t hold curl very well it may be a good idea to wear a style that is mainly pinned up rather than letting your curls fall flat through the evening.
It is also important to find out what your stylist will want you to do to prepare for a formal occasion style. Some may prefer that you shampoo the day before, others will want to shampoo you before styling. Bringing a picture of your desired updo is a great way for your stylist to be able to design the perfect style for you and takes the guessing out of the process.
Updos are fun and they are a way that you can express yourself. Pick a style that suits you and that will make you feel comfortable and beautiful. Get creative and enjoy choosing the perfect style for your special event!
