It is typical that most people decide to go darker with their hair color in the winter and blonder in the summer. When should you begin your transition for summer? For most women, the common assumption is that they already have all the essential knowledge on how to treat their skin, nails and hair. But in light of recent breakthroughs and findings in scientific research, some of this information may be erroneous or outdated. Or perhaps there is only knowledge, and no execution. With this in mind, here are some tips to help you out when it comes to beauty secrets:

1. Choose your facial cleanser very carefully. Your choice of facial cleanser is critical as it should never be too harsh or contain too many chemicals. You need to choose a cleanser that is both gentle and effective at dissolving dirt and excess oil on your face without stretching or drying your skin out in the process. Check out the label of the facial cleanser and choose one that is absent of detergents, irritants, fragrances, alcohols and anything else that causes blocking of the pores. Keep in mind that natural products do not necessarily make the grade. Lemon, cinnamon, essential oils, and mint may irritate the skin.



2. Exfoliation is absolutely essential. It is nothing short of surprising to note how many women skip the exfoliation process either because they deem it unnecessary or they are unsure of how to go about the process. Exfoliation is absolutely essential because it penetrates the skin to the core. It opens the doorway for your skin care creams, products, and serums to be 100 percent absorbed into your skin. In other words, exfoliation allows your skin to glow. If your skin is acne prone, it is wise to use an exfoliation product that contains salicylic acid. Consult your dermatologist for further advice.


3. Rage against skin aging with the use of retinoids. The development of retinoids was the result of coming up with a product that is useful for treating acne and smoothing out fine facial lines. Retinoids are used for thickening the epidermis and dermis. Dead skin cells are also exfoliated in the process and collagen production is likewise increased. However, one drawback to using retinoids is that they make the sun more sensitive to sunlight. With this in mind, it is ideal to use them at night.


4. Scrub those dead skin cells away. While facial scrubs are readily available at facial spas, you do not have to spend a fortune on these. You can make your own facial scrubs at home for half the price. Pick up some sugar cubes at the store and use the cubes on your skin. Rub them in circular motions. Afterwards, wash with lukewarm water and pat yourself dry. You can also recreate a hot steam experience by heating up a pot of water and standing over the stove once it starts to boil.


5. Extend the scrub to your body. Our faces are often the centre of attention when it comes to beauty regimens. This tends to leave many women with scaly skin on their knees, elbows, legs and arms. Don’t be a statistic and gather some coconut oil, kosher salt, and minced basil from your kitchen shelves. Throw these into a bowl, create a paste, and start scrubbing it on your body.


6. Hydrate your hair the proper way. Many women tend to apply their conditioner the same way that they do their shampoo. But the truth is that you need not let the conditioner reach your scalp as the scalp produces natural oils to help in the fight against dry hair. That said, it will suffice to let the conditioner sink into your hair from the mid-shaft to the tips.

The Los Angeles premiere of “The Watch” had stars walking the red carpet in style. Everyone showed up looking their very best wearing beautiful attire and gorgeous hair and makeup looks. Kendra Wilkinson showed up with a fun and funky hairstyle and sexy, sultry makeup. Her hair was half up and she wore an understated lipstick with her bold eye look.

The hairstyle seen on Kendra at this premiere would definitely look best on someone with layers or a side swept bang. All you have to do is pull one side of your hair back while slicking it into place with pomade. Leave one side down and pull the rest back into a ponytail and create a bun by loosely pinning it into place. Use a hairspray all over your entire hairdo to keep everything in place. To recreate her dramatic eye look, apply a primer all over your eye lids and use a shimmery eye shadow in the inner corners of your eyes and work it about halfway inwards on the eyelids. Use a darker shade on the outer corners and create a smudged look by blending the eye shadow inwards. Use a black liquid liner along your upper lashes and an eye pencil on your waterline. Coat both your upper and lower lashes with mascara and add false lashes if you want even more fullness.

Finish off your makeup look by applying a pale pink or nude lip gloss on your lips. This will give your look a much subtler effect and tone down the intense eye look. This sophisticated makeup look creates the perfect contrast for her fun hairstyle. This is an ideal look for either sophisticated events or a casual activity out, because it is sleek enough for a fancier environment yet casual enough for plans with friends.

Wavy Hair is becoming all the rage! How can you copy this look?
There are many ways to achieve different wavy styles but for a sleek wavy style like the one Amanda is wearing it is easiest to use a waving iron. Crimping irons used to be the popular tool but there is a modern twist on the crimping iron! You can purchase a “waving iron” or “undulating iron” from department stores or from your hair salon. Undulating irons cost around $30.
You simply part sections of your hair and clamp the waving iron starting near your scalp. Hold the iron to create the wave. Release and lower the iron to repeat until all of your hair is wavy!

At the recent Premiere of “Marvel’s The Avengers”, in Los Angeles, Scarlett was wearing her hair in a beautiful updo. This style accentuates her facial structure with a soft Marilyn Monroe look.

To achieve this style begin by rolling your hair on curlers, away from your hairline. Once the rollers have cooled, remove them and begin in the middle-back section of your head. Pin sections of your hair loosely. Continue at the hairline starting in the nape of your neck and loosely pin 1-1 & 1/2 inch sections up. Continue to repeat these steps until all of your hair is pinned loosely back. Be careful to make sure that you are pinning the hair with a lot of volume around the face. Once you are finished spray your style with your favorite firm hold hairspray and enjoy!

This blonde bombshell was also honored as Hasty’s 1212 woman of the year and has caught everyone’s eye as of late. There are many ways to update mid length hair so weather you are looking for this length or growing your hair out, look fierce without the hassle of longer locks.

Top tips for going for a mid length cut: One of the most important things to think about when looking for a mid length hairstyle that will best suit you is the density of your hair.

For medium to thick hair, you can do more detailed layers in the back because you have more to work with. Layers can change the whole look depending on if your layers are just on the bottom layer or just focused at the crown so have fun with it!

If you have fine hair you want to stay away from too many layers on the bottom layer because it will make your hair look more fine. It’s best with fine hair to keep the bottom more blunt and just focus on a few soft layers around the crown and a few face framing layers. Bangs will also give this length of hair a even more trendier look as well. Another great thing about this length is it’s a lot more manageable then long locks but can be just as or even more sexy then longer styles.
