Rachel Bilson is Glowing
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, brunette hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles, long hairstyles

Ah yes, there is nothing like a brand spanking new engagement ring to put a long overdue smile on a girl’s face, and Rachel Bilson is no exception. Here she is in Los Angeles doing some house hunting for her and her new husband to be, and as usual, this style icon is dressed to perfection. Pulling off a casual little black dress, Rachel is showing off a thousand watt smile to match her thousand watt diamond ring. And she has gone a little dressy in the hair, but elegantly enough that her long chestnut locks look casual as well. And whether you have easily tamable hair or not, this look of long and loose waves is so hot right now, and very easy to accomplish.
To get this look like Rachel Bilson, use texturizing shampoo and conditioner, and you will want to blow dry with a round bristle brush. Blow dry your hair about 95%, and when it is still slightly damp, you can set your hair in large sized Velcro rollers to create this wonderful volume that Rachel has here. Let your rollers set for about 30 minutes, and then blast some heat on them to finish the drying and lock in that volume.
When your hair has cooled from this blast, take the rollers out and brush out your hair with your soft bristle brush. The rollers will work to give you some volume, but don’t always allow for a wavy curl, so if you want a little more wave in your hair, use a large barrelled curling iron to lock in the sections you want more vamp appeal. The end result? A lovely voluptuous mane with just enough wave and volume to look sexy, but not too much that you are over the top.

Michelle Trachtenberg Keeps Us Guessing With Gossip Girl
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, Ponytails, brunette hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles, long hairstyles

And here we have the every so lovely Michelle Trachtenberg appearing once again on the set of Gossip Girl, leading us to believe that some more of her trouble is in store for our favourite Upper East Siders. In the first season of Gossip Girl, we saw Michelle blast New York with her icy persona, and she returned last season as a bad girl gone good. A little too good, in the “I love Jesus, don’t you?” kind of way. And it looks like she is going to keep us guessing with her real plans for Upper Manhattan, as we see her returning here on set for the upcoming season. And this look she has here does not tell us very much in the way of what we can wait for from her.
Here Michelle is not exactly her former sexy vamp sinking her claws into the city, but she is not exactly sending off the Christian Polyanna vibes any longer. Does this happy medium in her style mean that she is going to surprise us yet again? Who knows, but what Michelle is doing with this ponytail is a great thing, as it shows that yes, even a second day hair day ponytail can look both sleek AND chic, whether you are taking it day or night.
This look is easy to accomplish, particularly since you are going to skip your shampoo and do this with second day hair. For your front section, take a fine tooth comb dipped in water, and create a razor sharp part about 2-3 inches long. Then, comb the remaining section on the back of your crown, and tease it lightly to give you a bit of height and volume at the back of your head. Use your fine tooth comb to sleekly comb your sides to the back, gathering your back crown section together with your two sides.
Secure at the nape of your neck with a clear elastic, and give the back section a spritz of extra hold hairspray. Sweep your bangs to the side in either direction of your part, however you feel most comfortable, and secure with a pin behind your ear. Finish the look with a little spritzing of hair gloss, and you have yourself a super easy hairstyle that will look and stay great no matter WHERE you take it all day or all night

The Secret to Leighton Meester’s Headband Craze
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, brunette hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles, long hairstyles

Leighton Meester is one girl we love to hate, particularly when she is playing bad girl Queen Bee on our favourite prime time drama Gossip Girl. And another thing we love about this girl is consistency, isn’t it? No matter how good she pretends to be, we are never surprised by the fact that yes, she will always charm us with her evil doings and schemes. Perhaps what makes her so charming in this is her intentions behind most of her evil doings, as they always seem wrapped around the theme that she is doing it for her friends. Ah well, maybe we will see some changes in Blair Waldorf this season, and perhaps we won’t. The other thing that Blair seems to have when it comes to consistency is her never changing hairstyle.
If you want to add some instant glam to your hair, you can do so by taking a cue from Blair Waldorf and adopt this trend into your lifestyle with a cinch. This trend was so hot this year, that Leighton herself was rumoured to have gone through 48 headbands in last years 13 episode season. You too can get this look rather easily. To avoid the flat front that is common with a headband, first brush your hair back and tease with a comb. You will be able to keep the band in place by then spritzing hair with a texturizer and blasting the front section with a hair dryer before placing the headband on.
Place the headband onto your head instead of pulling it back, and you will be left with this style where some pieces are left in the front, while the band neatly and elegantly holds your hair back. The key to this look is remembering that the headband is meant to appear as a hair accessory, not as an actual head band that pulls your hair back giving you a facelift. Think of it as hair bling, made to look pretty on your head, and not so much for actually pulling your hair back. This mindset will help you in placement, and you can pull off this sexy but pretty look that Leighton seems to have mastered on Gossip Girl.

Jessica Lowndes Glams it Up On Set

Here we have everybody’s favorite bad girl gone good strutting her stuff on the set of Beverly Hills 90210, and it looks like Jessica’s former bad girl persona is cleaning up a little bit with the new season, as she is looking pretty darn smoking as the newest mom of Beverly Hills. Though we did see Jessica’s character tearfully give her daughter up for adoption last season, she is not actually playing a new mom, but clearly going back into the limelight with this glamorous look that shows no evidence of a new mom figure. And for this post-baby look, Jessica Lowndes was styled in this smoking purple mini dress with her gorgeous raven hair reaching new lengths this season in a sexy sultry length that is long and luscious.
Here Jessica’s hair has been styled with a vixen in mind and it looks like she is really playing up the sexy girl on the upcoming season. To get this look, use texturizing shampoo and conditioner, and you will want to blow dry with a round bristle brush. Blow dry your hair about 95%, and when it is still slightly damp, you can set your hair in large sized Velcro rollers to create this wonderful volume that Jessica has here. Let your rollers set for about 30 minutes, and then blast some heat on them to finish the drying and lock in that volume.
When your hair has cooled from this blast, take the rollers out and brush out your hair with your soft bristle brush. If your hair doesn’t quite have the volume that you are looking for, use a wide barrelled curling iron to add a little more lift at the top and add some overall extra volume. As you take the curling iron out of your hair, spritz some extra hold spray on your waves, and finger comb the look out, not worrying about your part or where your luscious long waves are moving. The end result? A lovely voluptuous mane with just enough wave and volume to look sexy, but not too much that you are over the top.

Anne Hathaway Goes Glam
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, brunette hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles

Ever the stylista Anne Hathaway is seen here hanging out in the East Village with some unidentified male amigo, and since they are doing the cutesy hand holding thing, my guess would be that Anne has decided to get back in the relationship saddle again. No surprise that it took her so long after all that she went through with the con man from Italy, but it looks like the wait was worth it to her as she is looking happyk, smiley, and ever so glamorous in even the most casual ensemble. Here Anny has gone for a darling little denim mini-dress, and has left her shoulder length cropped hair as is for the day.
Not too much styling here is required, but as you can see having the right cut really makes all of the difference here. Anne’s chocolate colored locks are cut to one length, and it looks like she has taken some time to grow out her bangs as well. The key to styling this chic look into something that is not too glamorous, but sexy and chic at the same time is to tame it with a little bit of product. Use some texturizing shampoo and conditioner for this one, and you will want some styling pomade as well.
For this length of hair you want to go with about a quarter sized drop of pomade and run it over your hands until your palms are covered. Finger comb your hair then with your hands and really work the product through. If your hair is naturally straight, you can just let it air dry, and the texturizing products will work their magic. If not, you may want to blow dry with a flat paddle brush from roots to your ends, and this will lock in the product and ensure your hair stays voluminous with plenty of movement for this chic casual look.
Again, you don’t want to overstyle here, some drying and product is all you need for this sexy look as casual, carefree, and confidence are the true hallmarks to the success of this style.

Dita Von Teese Impresses with Old Hollywood Glamor
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, black hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles

Dita Von Teese has that look that requires skill and artisan craftsmanship, and though this look is by no means easy low maintenance, the final effect is worth the effort every single time. When you throw in her natural beauty and chiseled features, this is one look that is easily envied by many. Here she is spotted in a colorful red and white dress in the VIP section of the Coachella festival that has been all the rage for A-listers this week, and she is styled to perfection for even an everyday outdoor festival. To get the Old Hollwyood hair, you need to focus on curly curls and careful styling.
This look is most easily accomplished on shoulder length or shorter hair as well. And, if you want to look authentically Old World, then you have to do it authentically as well, and for this look, pin curls are the way to go. For this, you want to start off with washing your hair with curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Blow dry your hair until it is about 80% dry, with just enough dampness to hold your curls. Take your hair in one inch sections, and wrap a section around your index finger until you get as close to your head as possible. When you do, slowly pull your finger out of the curl, and then pin the curl right to your head. Do this for your entire head. Let your curls dry naturally, or you can blast them with some low heat to set the curl.
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen Pins it Up

Gisele Bundchen
Yes, it’s true, even supermodels can have a bad hair day, and you see what can happen to someone when it does. Well, for you maybe, but for Gisele it seems that when she has a bad hair day, we just get to see more of her gorgeous face. Here is Gisele as she goes for a little stroll for some me time in the West Village in New York City where she lives.
Recently she renewed her vows with hubby hunk Tom Brady, and the two have been publicizing that with much PDA recently, but it seems in this case, Gisele was going solo with nothing but her Blackberry to keep her company. And even when she is strolling through SoHo and having a grand old time in her most casual attire, she is still looking fabulous with her hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail. This just goes to show that yes, you can get away with second day hair without drawing too much attention to yourself.
If you pull off the right look like Gisele has here and choose simple pieces that are casual, but with one or two standing out amongst the others, you can get away with the ponytail. Doing just that will ensure that if you are getting looks from the crowd, they are the kind of looks you want.

Jessica Alba Puts it Up
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, Jessica Alba Hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles

Jessica dressed up her style a little bit with a pretty updo in braids and a casual ensemble. This look is a very pretty one for day, as it dresses up your entire look no matter what you are wearing, and braids are always very flattering and complimentary on any face.
This look however is not that easy to achieve if you are going for sleek and chic, so you do want to take your time here. Part your hair down the center, and run your comb under water to assist with the sleek factor. Comb both sides of your head with the comb to sleek your sides, and this dampening effect will allow you to work with and braid your hair much easier. Comb a tiny section off the top and towards the back and begin your braiding.
As you braid, braid towards the back of your head so that the braid will lie smooth. Do the same with the other side, and depending on how long your hair is, you can either tuck the ends under, or coil them into a pretty bun at the back. Finish with some extra hold spray for your flyaways and you have yourself a pretty and chic updo that can take you from day to night without having to do a single thing!

Shenae Grimes Not Such a Good Girl
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, 90210 Hairstyles, brunette hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles, long hairstyles, straight hairstyles

90210 actress Shenae Grimes isn’t quite a good girl, she just plays one on TV. Here she is seen showing off her dark side this past weekend as she hangs with some friends at the exclusive Bardot lounge in West Hollywood. And Shenae is a Canadian actress who seems to bring that wholesome Canadian goodness to the screen as she plays this generation’s goody goody on Beverly Hills 90201. But as you can see here with her lacy and all black ensemble for her Saturday night on the town, Shenae is working hard to convey the notion that she is not as much a good girl as her screen work may lead you to believe.
And it also looks like Shenae has followed this season’s hair trend by taking her shade to an extreme color with dramatically darker locks. Shenae normally has chestnut locks that she complements with fair and golden highlights, but this color here is definitely highlighting her more serious side. Shenae here has also straightened her normally luscious waves into a sleek look that is both chic and glamorous.
To get this look, use texturizing shampoo and conditioner in the shower, particularly if straightening your hair can be a bit of a challenge in warmer and more humid temperatures. Use straightening serum on towel dried hair, and blow dry your hair with a flat bristle brush. You don’t want lift at the crown or roots here, as sleek and bone straight is your ultimate goal. After your hair is dried, run a flat iron over your hair to smooth away any bend, and amp up the sleek factor. After your first run with the flat iron, spritz on some glossing serum to add some extra shine, and then run the flat iron through it again to lock in your super shine. Create a sleek side part, and you’ve got yourself a straight look that will last through the night no matter how hard you are rocking the night away.

Blake Lively Rocks the “Late Show with David Letterman”
Filed under: 2008 hairstyles, 2009 hairstyles, blonde hairstyles, celebrity hairstyles

If you are a big fan of the CW, then you are more than likely a big fan of the chicest Upper East Sider out there, Blake Lively, aka Serena Vanderwood. We love to see Blake on screen with the trendiest fasion, the chicest accessories, and the attitude to go with all of it. And if you enjoy watching Blake’s comings and goings off-screen, then you know she carries this same trend off-set as well. No, this is not a girl that you will ever catch having a bad hair day, or a bad anything day really. Even when she does sport the bad days, you never notice because she is just *that*beautiful. But don’t hate her for it because she’s also one of the sweetest girls off-screen that you will ever meet. Which is probably why she has done so well in the romance department with fellow co-star Penn Badgely, your friend Dan.
Here Blake is showing off her stuff in a gorgeous eye popping mini-dress that highlights this season’s jewel tones perfectly. And here for her appearance on David Letterman Blake chose to veer from her usual wavy and luscious long mane, and complemented her stunning attire with a sleek look that is neither too wavy or too straight. It’s all in the casual here, but casual elegance is the marker of this look.
To get this look, you want to have a layered cut with long concave layers cut that angle toward your features rather than away from them. Use texturizing shampoo and conditioner to give your hair some bend, and blow dry your hair from roots to ends with a round and soft bristle brush. After your blowdry, you can run some styling pomade through your hair to give it some additional texture and movement. Then, use a 1 ½ “ curling iron to put some bend and wave in your hair, but here you really just want to run the iron through your hair, and not focus too much on curl.
Keep the curling on for just a second or two, and create a lovely, soft wave that will last all day. You will then brush these waves out for a soft almost ethereal look, and a sexy but not too fussy side part will add instant vamp appeal to your overall look of casual elegance. Finish the look with some extra hold hairspray along your part.
