Moisturizing the facial skin is one of the most important parts of a daily facial skin regime. Not all facial moisturizers are created equally. Many skin lotions are scented and lack the important sunscreens needed to protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Facial skin lotions should not serve dual functions as every day body lotions. Body lotions are often scented with a plethora of perfumes. These perfumes wreak havoc on the facial skin and cause irritation and break outs. Fragrances contain alcohol which dries facial skin quickly. When shopping for a facial skin lotion, stick with fragrance free and hypoallergenic lotions. These are perfect for the sensitive nature of facial skin. Perfumes should not find homes in the lotions we place on our faces.

Sunscreen is also an important ingredient in a proper facial lotion. During every month of the year, the face is exposed to harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun. If the moisturizer you use daily on your facial skin does not contain a sunscreen, there is no protective layer between your face and the sun. Many facial lotions now contain sunscreens, but, if you have found a facial lotion you love and it does not contain a sunscreen. Add a second lotion to your daily facial skin care regime.

Moisturizing and protecting facial skin is the key to longevity and younger looking skin. The use of daily facial lotions is nearly impossible to avoid, but these lotions should never contain irritating fragrances. UVA and UVB rays should also be blocked by choosing a facial lotion that includes a sunscreen.
